Vienna Gold Coin Series (Gold Philharmonic Series)
The Vienna Gold Coin was first issued in 1989 in honor of the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Initially issued with a face value of 2,000 Schillings, the face value was changed to 100 Euros in 2002 with the transition to the euro. Today, in addition to the 1 oz gold coin, the series also includes various sizes of split coins, as well as silver and platinum coins. To mark the series' 20th anniversary, the Austrian Mint issued a special 20 oz Vienna Gold Coin with a purity of .9999.
Vienna Gold Coin Design:
Since the series' inception, the Vienna Gold Coin has featured the magnificent pipe organ in the Vienna Philharmonic's "Golden Hall" on the obverse and a musical instrument motif on the reverse. The reverse features beautifully arranged instruments, including a cello, violin, harp, Vienna horn, and bassoon, creating a design that conveys respect for music and artistic expression.
