Obverse: Designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, the obverse of the coin depicts the legendary origin of the Erzberg. It shows a water sprite (or "Wassermann") who, according to local folklore, offered the local farmers immense riches in exchange for a child or a ram. The farmer chose a ram, and in return, the sprite transformed a barren mountain into the iron-rich Erzberg. The design captures the mythical creature and the transformed mountain. Inscriptions include "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH," the year "2010," and the face value "10 EURO."
Reverse: Also designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, the reverse side vividly portrays the Erzberg itself, with its distinctive terraced, pyramid-like shape formed by centuries of open-cast mining. It showcases the scale of the mining operation, with a large ore car (or "Lorries") prominently featured, symbolizing the industry that shaped the region. The inscription "DER ERZBERG IN DER STEIERMARK" (The Erzberg in Styria) is displayed.
Packaging:
As a Proof coin, it was originally issued by the Austrian Mint in a high-quality presentation box, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity (COA). This COA confirms the coin's specifications, limited mintage, and genuine nature.
