Largo Winch is much more than an adventure series – it is a modern legend in the European comic landscape. The origins of the character go back to the 1970s, when writer Jean Van Hamme wrote a series of English-language thrillers about a mysterious young billionaire with Yugoslav roots. The books achieved modest success, but Van Hamme felt that Largo’s story was waiting for a different medium: the comic book.
In 1990, he found the perfect creative partner in talented Belgian artist Philippe Francq. Together, they transformed Largo Winch into a visually gripping comic series that combines classic action and economic intrigue with contemporary themes such as corruption, power, and identity. The series quickly became a staple in the European comics scene and grew into a fan favourite, with millions of copies sold in dozens of languages.
What sets it apart is the unique way Largo Winch uses the financial world as a backdrop for espionage, conspiracies, and moral dilemmas. He is an unlikely hero: as charming as he is vulnerable, as rational as he is reckless.
The series also inspired two French-language feature films (Largo Winch and Largo Winch II), starring Tomer Sisley, which helped bring the character to an international audience.
