This is a bullion gold coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.
The reverse of the coin features a large sugar maple leaf, Canada's symbol, on a finely engraved radial background to prevent counterfeiting.
A small maple-shaped privy mark in the lower right contains the last two digits of the year. This privy mark has a fine laser-engraved pattern, making it easy to authenticate using equipment provided by the Royal Canadian Mint.
Since its launch in 1979, over 25 million troy ounces have been sold, and the Maple Gold Coin was also the world's first bullion gold coin to achieve the 99.99% (9999) purity standard.
The 2026 one-ounce gold coin incorporates three advanced anti-counterfeiting features:
precise radial lines;
a micro-engraved maple leaf visible under magnification; and
proprietary Bullion DNA anti-counterfeiting technology. Bullion
DNA technology goes beyond traditional authentication methods by engraving a microscopic laser mark on each die used to produce the coin. This data is encrypted with a special algorithm and stored in the Mint's secure database, enabling fast and reliable authentication of GML gold coins issued since 2014.
Additionally, in 2013, a new security feature was introduced: a small, textured maple leaf laser-engraved on the reverse of the coin. The issue year, "26" (2026), can be seen in the center of this mark under magnification.
The 2026 Canada 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf coin features radial lines precisely machined to the micron level. Their unique width and spacing create a distinctive pattern that reflects light, combining the beauty of a maple leaf coin with the reliability of authenticity.
