Monnaie de Paris unveils the first coin in the French Genius trilogy, inspired by one of the Republic's iconic figures: the Genius of Liberty, commonly known as the Genius of the Bastille. The Genius is depicted naked with angel wings. In his right hand, he proudly brandishes a torch, symbolising the light that will guide the people, while his left hand grasps a broken chain, an allegory of liberation. The design of this engraving is based on the work sculpted by Auguste Dumont in 1836 to crown the July Column in Place de la Bastille in Paris.

Inspired by the 100-franc “Fraternité” coins (1988), the reverse side, common to the trilogy, highlights the French national motto. The original trunk is replaced here by a bundle, a powerful symbol of the Republic, topped with a Phrygian cap, emblem of order and freedom.

These coins, with their sumptuous aesthetics, are exceptional gifts that may increase in value over time and will always be worth at least their face value.

Given the significant fluctuations in metal prices, Monnaie de Paris has had to update the Génie collection. In previous editions, this collection included a € 20 coin made of 900 silver. It was decided to increase the face value of this denomination to a € 50 silver coin. It nevertheless keep s the same technical specifications : 900 silver, 16 g, and 33mm in diameter. As in previous years, this coin will be available in both standard and proof versions. Note that, for the new Génie trilogy, the standard version will be offered in a card board.
