2026 1/4 oz South Africa Gold Martial Eagle PP

Now in its second year, the Odyssey of the Sky is a

24 ct gold and fine-silver seven-coin series, now celebrating the exciting journey of the martial eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus).

The martial eagle is one of Africa’s largest and most powerful birds of prey. Its wingspan can be wider than the outstretched arms of an adult, allowing it to soar efficiently over open landscapes. Its plumage is dark brown on the upper body and lighter underneath, giving it a distinctive appearance in flight. Known for its exceptional eyesight, the martial eagle can spot potential prey from great distances, allowing it to effectively hunt across vast areas.

The gold coins’ reverse features a detailed close-up portrait of the martial eagle, while the reverse of the four fine-silver coins depicts the eagle with its wings spread, clenched on a branch. Each reverse design also includes the inscriptions “The Odyssey” and “Martial Eagle,” along with the coin’s denomination and hallmark.

The interconnectedness between humanity and nature is again represented through the incorporation of an African pattern along the edges of the coins.

The common obverse design features the South African national coat of arms, the year of issue, and the inscription “South Africa”.
