Our sixth issue in the "Numismatic Icons" series features a beautiful lion, representing the animal of the god Apollo. Apollo was not only the god of the arts, healing, and light, but also the patron god of the colonies. The majestic lion represents strength, protection, and divine guidance. The coin tells of Leontini's importance as an agricultural center and the colony's close connection to Apollo.
The lion, as a symbol of the god, underscores divine protection over the colony, while the barleycorn alludes to the region's prosperity and fertility. The CI ciphers mimic the ancient Greek tradition of marking the coin's origin. As always, the issue includes three fantastic specifications in silver and gold.
