This is the magnificent final issue in the successful series. It pays tribute to the Jefferson Memorial, a majestic monument in Washington, D.C., built in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and author of the Declaration of Independence.
The monument's classical architecture, inspired by the timeless beauty of Roman architecture, features an imposing dome and elegant columns reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome. These venerable walls were built between 1939 and 1943, and inside them sits an imposing statue of Jefferson, surrounded by quotations from his speeches and writings – a powerful symbol of his vision of democracy, freedom, and human rights.
Like all issues in this series, both the 2 oz and 5 oz versions are small, freestanding masterpieces. The double-sided ultra-high relief, combined with the warm antique finish, gives the coins an extraordinary depth effect. Both sides also reveal the filigree coffered ceiling of the dome, which artfully complements the background and captures the sublime atmosphere of the monument.
