The second issue of the Cute & Cuddly series is dedicated to the Numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus). The coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold and is strictly limited to only 99 pieces worldwide. The motive in color depicts a cute baby Numbat depicted with a monarch butterfly. Also included in the design are native plants of the Australian flora and the inscription “AUSTRALIAN NUMBAT”. The reverse features the portrait of King Charles III and the inscriptions "100 DOLLARS", "1OZ 9999 GOLD" and "NIUE 2025".
The numbat is also known as the “banded anteater” and is found exclusively in South and Western Australia, where it makes an important contribution to the local ecosystem. The small marsupial feeds mainly on termites - as these are active during the day, the Numbat has adapted to the behavior of its prey and is the only exclusively diurnal marsupial in Australia. Due to its shape and its characteristic striped fur coloration, it is unmistakable among the mammals native to Australia. The limited Baby Numbat gold coin in color is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
